Wild Animals in the Dark

The other day J and I came home after the sun had gone down. That in itself is not a story. We do that often. J headed into the house while I took my time making sure Delta got a chance to pee somewhere in the darkness. Suddenly she made a really strange sound I can only categorize as an "unsure growl".  I looked up and right in front of me was a huge animal starring right at me. I jumped in the house and wailed for J to come save the dog from the moose that was trying to get in the house. J - always ready for a challenge - grabbed a broom and jumped out the door. He yelled at me that it was a cow and I instantly yelled back that he should come inside, because moose cows can be dangerous if they have a calf to protect. At this point J sticks his head in the door and tells me that no, it's not a moose cow, it's an actual cow. And she brought a young bull with her - both of who were going to town on my Halloween pumpkin lantern that has been happily frozen in place for five months. Long story short, the neighbor's cows had gotten out. I don't think I will ever get used to living next to farm animals. I have blogged about it before here! The neighbor kid came over and requested some oats to lure them back home. Last thing I saw was cow and bull chasing after J and the kid and their oats.
