Smokey town
Today is the most smokey day I have witnessed (and inhaled) in all of my time in Alaska. Locals will point out that's because I wasn't here in 2004-2006 fire seasons. However everyone can agree that the only thing worse than today is three weeks of today. I'm lucky to sit in an air conditioned office where I miss 8 hours of smoke inhalation. However I fear that what I miss at the office I will make up for in our not-so-airtight house.
170 new fires were started in Alaska over the weekend - many of which were human-caused even though there is a burn ban issued. The rest are caused by lightning as over 6000 lightning struck across Alaska on Saturday.
All because we asked for some extra sunshine after last years wet on wet summer.
Alaska continues to be extreme no matter the season.
On a less intense note, we did have a wonderful less-smokey solstice weekend with an unending number of great bands playing around town. That kept J working around the clock from Friday to Monday while I took a more relaxed approach to the whole thing 😉
