One month with Una
My daughter is one month old today. It's true what people say: it goes so fast. But time has also slowed down significantly. There are plenty of moments to reflect, to look at her, hold her hand, take naps with her. We took her on a road trip this week: 300 miles to Anchorage. She slept her way through most of it and grew an inch so the first sets of clothing have been packed away. Today she is sleeping through her first studio recording. People tell me to enjoy these first months where she so easily puts up with things.
Before I got pregnant people told me to enjoy my freedom and fit body because pregnancy would be hard. When I got pregnant people told me to enjoy it and get lots of sleep because once the baby was born there would be no sleep and it would be hard. Since Una was born people have told me to enjoy these first months because soon it will get a lot harder as she stays awake more and demand more.
I wonder what the next warning will be. It seems like there is this funny tradition of warnings surrounding having children. I like to see it as kind reminders of enjoying every moment because they go by so fast, but I find it puzzling that we feel the need to warn each other of harder times lying ahead in the process. So to all the pregnant ladies out there: it is a magical time when your baby comes, enjoy it! (No but, however or beware)
Here is how my afternoon and evening looked today:
