36 + weeks/Last post of 2015
2015 is coming to an end this week. It’s been a big year. J
and I travelled around Cali, I got to go to New Orleans and connect with the Bartlett family, I got my first real
grown-up job and I got promoted into an even more grown-up job, the house got a
big new window and an insulated Arctic entryway, James got a minivan and found
out he is allergic to bees, John’s brother passed away and we are thankful we
got to spend time with him in 2015, and Sunnyside Productions increased revenues
once again, in fact, between the two of us, we are now borderline middleclass,
which leads to many jokes and a fair amount of justification for buying
expensive cheese.
Did I forget something? Oh right, we are having a baby in
less than a month. 2015 was the year I was pregnant with our first child. I’ll
leave it to 2016 to be the year where I give birth while living without running
water and work 40 hours a week up until my due date with 4 hours of daylight
and January temperatures. We all know America sucks when it comes to maternity
leave and Denmark is the land of gold and honey for expecting/new mothers. I
made a choice to do this in Alaska and these are the conditions (pep-talk to
self done).
I believe we are as ready as we can be for baby girl, which
mostly means I have gathered all “the stuff”. Because who really feels ready
and prepared to give birth and have a baby? I’ve read the books and practiced
the breathing, but seriously, I have no idea what I’m in for never having done
it before. I guess it’s just one of those go-with-it-and-try-to-relax things. I
don’t believe I can plan my way out of this. I can prepare a number of tools
for birthing and taking care of a baby, but I won’t know what will actually
work for me, her and us until I’m doing it.
Happy New Year to all of you from the four of us!
