Danes, Denmark, Danish Summer
Summer went by in a blur. That's pretty normal when you live this far north. When you only have three months to fit everything "summer" into and you're fueled by 24 hours of sunlight everything happens fast and days are packed with social activities and to-do's.
My summer was particularly Danish this year as my parents, sister and brother-in-law came to visit in late June through mid-July and in late July I went to Denmark for a month with Una. Basically we had almost 8 weeks of Dane-time and it was wonderful. When you live far away from your family, you appreciate every moment you get to spend with them, but you also have the privilege of then spending 24 hours a day with them, so these intense social bursts make up for prolonged periods of separation. Una got to the point where she started saying Danish words at the end of our stay in Denmark. Once we got back to Alaska she reverted into herself for a bit and didn't say any new words, but now after a couple of weeks of being home the bilingual child is slowly starting to test her language skills again in a mix of Danish and English. It is so cool to see her work it all out.
Otherwise I am thinking and feeling, and doing some more thinking on what kind of life I want to live in the next coming years. There is not a clear answer to that question but things like child, children, childcare, full time work, part time work, self-employment, insurance, expenses, dreams, plans, goals, values, health, and social life, just to mention a few, are taking up most of my mental capacity and energy. The world feels totally open and at the same time so much has to fit into the puzzle that very few options are ideal. So I'm doing some more thinking and will get back to you all on that subject some day. I'll leave you with some pictures of Una with her mormor, morfar and moster <3
