Welcome to 2019 (Yes, I know it's March) and WOMEN'S DAY!
It's International Women's Day today, which by the way, in Danish is called Women's Fight Day. Or maybe more accurate and less literal: The day where women show how they fight for and take a stand for what it means to be a woman in today's world. I read an article online today from the Danish Magazine POV about a new feminist movement emerging. A movement that want women to be acknowledged and financially compensated for, the nurturing and reproductive work that they do for their families and as employees in caregiver jobs. Women of past generations fought to become financially independent by getting on the job market. It is the hope that women of the future will be able to live in a way that values both their contribution to the job force and their contribution to their families; to their children. And that the contribution to their families, the reproductive and nurturing capabilities of women everywhere, won't put women at risk financially and career-wise,
I was raised with and by the old-school feminist movement where women should prove their worth as equals to men on the job market as well as in any other aspects of life. Women can do what men can do. I firmly believe that. And I'm curious how this new feminist movement will build on that older wave and take equality and independence to new levels. I would certainly love to see my daughter not having to choose between financial security or having/raising her children. Fellow women, we have come so far and we have established ourselves as equal to men, in a man's world. Next step is to make it a woman's world.
In other news, I'm back to blogging after a long break, mostly because my brain took a long break while pregnant. I am coming out of the baby haze and feel the need to write again, so here I am.
Now a mother of two, forever a sister, always a daughter.
